This picture will not be me for a little while. Ironically it had nothing to do with the Snowpocalypse that just hit New England. I was away for the weekend, and Monday morning I was clearing the snow from Saturday off my car. I slipped on some black ice and twisted my ankle pretty badly as I fell. Fortunately my girlfriend was inside, so I called her out to help, and she took me to the ER. Some X-rays revealed an avulsion fracture, so I'm laid up for 10 days while it heals. And, of course, it's my right foot, so even if I had an automatic I couldn't drive. Not that I'm tackling the slippery parking lot on crutches anyway.
All in all, it could've been a whole lot worse. My people have been taking excellent care of me. Still, winter sucks!!!

That sucks! Good thing you've got friends and family around to help out.

Broken ankles suck. I broke my left one slipping on ice when I was 17. Not an avulsion but your standard type of fracture, had a cast up to just below my knee for six weeks.
Still managed to drive stick after a week of taking it easy though.

Ouch! Sorry you're going to be laid up. Damn black ice. Take care.

I feel your pain, and then some. Last winter I slipped on ice walking home one night and managed to break my femur. I was 100 yards away from my apartment building and the police station. lol That was not a fun break. I've still got a 13x1 in plate and a handful of screws in my leg. Luckily, I can still drive my FR-S like the one pictured above!

My dad once drove with his left foot for a while after he hurt his leg. I wouldn't recommend trying that.
Does this make your girlfriend your driver for the next week?

I'm fortunate enough to be able to work from home, so I can avoid the snowy parking lot, and the 1.5 flights of stairs. I've never been on crutches before, and I'm terrible at them!

Be extra careful with crutches on ice! Yikes. Time for a motorized wheelchair so you can do wheelchair donuts!
(kinda lame donuts video but the first hit for wheelchair donuts...)

Damn, black ice is a bitch. Good to hear it wasn't more severe.
My dad obliterated his ankle last winter on some. Long story short, he was slipping, and then caught traction and the torque of stopping just shattered everything. 13 pins and 2 screws later and he'll never be able to run again, which really bugs him since he used to run about 5-6 miles a day.

Sounds like I got lucky! I seriously think that if I wasn't wearing high top boots, the damage would've been a whole lot worse.

On the positive side, you had a REALLY good excuse for not shoveling the 30+ inches of snow we got yesterday.

While this isn't how I wanted to go about it, this beneficial side effect has not been lost on me...
